weather-wise captureA multi-institutional team of researchers, led by HART’s Prof Jacquelyn Allen-Collinson, is undertaking a sociological research project on the lived experience of weather and the senses, and including ‘weather work’ and ‘temperature’ work in a range of different sports and physical cultures.  The team comprises Dr Helen Owton (The Open University), Dr Anu Vaittinen (Newcastle University) and Dr George Jennings (Cardiff Metropolitan University), with research interests in, and lived experience of the physical cultures of Mixed Martial Arts, Traditionalist Chinese Martial Arts, boxing, distance running, and triathlon.

An article based on the team’s autoethnographic and autophenomenographic research findings was published recently in the International Review for the Sociology of Sport.  A pre-publication copy of the paper can also be accessed free here.
