Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Conference, Hiroshima

2017 Heat conf presentationHART members and associate members have produced a virtual lightning talk based on a current research project on ‘lived heat’ and thermoception in various physical cultures. The talk will play at the Twelfth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, International Conference Centre, Hiroshima, Japan, July 26-28. Specific physical cultures being investigated are boxing, mixed martial arts, traditionalist Chinese martial arts, and distance running. The team comprises Prof Jacquelyn Allen-Collinson, HART Director, Lincoln, Dr Anu Vaittinen, Newcastle University, Dr Helen Owton, The Open University, and Dr George Jennings, Cardiff Metropolitan University.

An article from the project has recently been published in the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, and analysed thermoception, as the lived experience of heat.
