Society of Qualitative Research in Sport & Exercise Student & ECR conference

HART member and PhD student Jo Blackwell was part of the organising committee for the inaugural Student and Early Career Researcher conference of the International Society of Qualitative Research in Sport and Exercise (QRSE), which took place in April 2021. After the unfortunate but understandable postponement of the 2020 QRSE conference, colleagues at Anglia Ruskin University decided to approach the QRSE board about the possibility of hosting a virtual student and ECR conference. Through her networks, Jo was invited to join the organising committee, and worked with colleagues over several months to bring the conference to fruition and ensure its smooth running over the four conference days.

The conference was highly successful, with over 200 attendees, engaging keynotes from a number of eminent researchers at both professorial and ECR level, ‘coffee with the expert’ sessions, student and ECR presentations and poster sessions. The full QRSE conference will now take place in Durham in 2022 and it is hoped further ECR events will also take place in future.
