An evaluation of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s Community Fire Safety activities

A multifaceted evaluation was commissioned by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of their Community Fire Safety activities, namely the Safe and Well Checks which are carried out across the county to improve the overall health, safety, and wellbeing of service users. Information was obtained via interviews, focus groups and questionnaires from those working within the fire service and are involved in the delivery of the Checks about their perceptions of the Checks and types of services provided. Questionnaires were also conducted with service recipients to learn about their experiences and how the information or referrals made during the Checks may have helped to improve their health and wellbeing (e.g., falls prevention, smoking cessation, mental health support). Further analyses were conducted to understand how efficient the Safe and Well initiative, which is a requirement of the National Fire Chiefs Council for county-wide fire services across the UK, is in relation to the social return on investment it provides for the resources currently being implemented. LFR were provided with some recommendations that may help to improve the service both from an organisational perspective, and for the Lincolnshire community
